Mechanical Engineer - Equipment and Automation

About the role

Afinitas, part of the Barry-Wehmiller group, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design mechanical components and subsystems of automated machinery for its global Equipment and Automation product range. The engineer works from 3D CAD concepts, sketches or verbal descriptions and meets customer and market requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Create CAD models and documentation from 3D CAD, sketches or verbal descriptions using SolidWorks
• Prepare and maintain bills of materials from CAD assemblies, considering form, fit, function, manufacturing feasibility, cost and operation
• Document or analyse data and prepare reports with Excel and Word
• Produce assembly and dimensioned detail drawings compliant with company standards
• Make and document design and drawing revisions
• Specify standard commercial and custom-made parts with external suppliers
• Take part in design analysis, cost reduction and conceptual design meetings
• Collaborate with other departments, support manufacturing and procurement, and help the manufacturing team interpret drawings
• Assist customers, field service, customer service and sales on product questions

Required profile

• Engineering degree or certificate, ideally 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience in manufacturing or plant industries
• Ability to read, interpret and create mechanical and assembly drawings
• Understanding of machine shop and assembly practice
• Good communication, teamwork and multitasking skills
• Willingness to wear and use PPE in manufacturing areas and to travel to customer plants
