Senior Accountant – Temporary Replacement

About the role

The Euro-Mediterranean Foundation of Support to Human Rights Defenders (EMHRF) seeks an experienced Senior Accountant to ensure continuity of its finance and administration functions during a maternity leave. The assignment starts in mid‑November 2026 and lasts approximately 7‑9 months, with the possibility of remote work and occasional travel to Copenhagen or Paris.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records, perform monthly reconciliations and support month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
• Process payments, monitor cash balances, and liaise with banks, auditors and external service providers.
• Support annual statutory and project audits, ensure compliance with internal controls and donor reporting requirements.
• Coordinate payroll administration, monitor salary, pension and leave payments, and assist with recruitment and onboarding documentation.
• Monitor labour, tax and administrative regulatory changes and advise management on implications.

Required profile

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in accounting and financial management, preferably in NGOs or donor‑funded environments.
• Excellent written and spoken English, high attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote setting.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with accounting software, specifically Odoo.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, audit processes and payroll administration.
