PhD Position in Reversible Programming Languages

About the role

The Programming Languages and Theory of Computation (PLTC) Section at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a three‑year PhD position focused on reversible programming languages, starting 1 January 2027 or later.

Key responsibilities

• Advance reversible programming languages to increase expressiveness and applicability for non‑trivial reversible algorithms.
• Study integration of reversible features into mainstream irreversible languages.
• Explore domain‑specific features and novel language idioms for reversible computing.
• Publish research results at international conferences and in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Undertake planned secondments at partner institutions in France, Denmark and Japan.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field (equivalent to a Danish master’s).
• Strong academic record and motivation for doctoral research.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate in an international research environment.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Willingness to travel for secondments.

Required skills

• Experience or interest in programming language design.
• Knowledge of semantics or implementation of programming languages.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term three‑year PhD contract with salary starting at DKK 31,845 per month (approx. EUR 4,260).
