Interdisciplinary Postdoc on Extreme Heat Impacts

About the role

The University of Copenhagen invites applications for a two‑year interdisciplinary postdoctoral position starting 1 December 2026. The role is based in the Department of Economics and contributes to the UCPH Convergence Grant project “In the Heat of the Moment: Mapping the Extreme Heat Landscape.”

Key responsibilities

• Develop quantitative empirical analyses of extreme‑heat exposure using climate reanalysis, satellite and meteorological data.
• Combine high‑frequency heat measures with household, administrative, health and demographic datasets.
• Estimate causal effects of heat on economic outcomes, health, labour supply, education and welfare.
• Analyse heterogeneous and distributional impacts across vulnerable populations.
• Investigate household, community and institutional adaptation mechanisms.
• Contribute to methods for quantifying economic and social burdens where impact data are scarce.
• Collaborate with researchers from climate science, public health, law and data science.

Required profile

• PhD in economics, climate science, public health, development studies or a related field.
• Strong background in quantitative research and causal inference.
• Experience working with large, high‑frequency datasets.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and communicate findings to diverse audiences.
