Staff Frontend Engineer - Design Systems

About the role

We’re hiring a Staff Frontend Engineer to join Pleo’s Design Systems team. You will lead the engineering direction and execution of our design system, Telescope, across web and mobile platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Set technical direction for Telescope’s architecture, component standards, release practices and quality bars.
• Drive and evolve the contribution model and request flow, including triage, prioritisation and expectations.
• Improve developer and contributor experience through tooling, automation and visual testing workflows.
• Measure and communicate adoption, system health and documentation publishing.
• Lead team rituals, represent Design Systems in cross‑team initiatives and mentor engineers.
• Contribute hands‑on to code, ensuring accessibility, performance and high quality.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and maintaining component libraries or platform‑like products used by multiple teams.
• Strong background in modern frontend engineering with TypeScript; React experience is a plus.
• Ability to design maintainable systems with clear boundaries, versioning and backward compatibility.
• Solid testing practices (unit, integration, end‑to‑end) and a quality‑first mindset.
• Deep understanding of accessibility and performance best practices for UI systems.
• Effective collaboration with designers and product engineers, navigating trade‑offs across stakeholders.
