Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy & Business Development

About the role

Novo Nordisk is looking for a Senior Vice President to lead Corporate Strategy & Business Development, a newly established organisation bringing together two capabilities that shape the company's long-term direction and growth. Reporting directly to the CEO and sitting in Executive Management, the role has an enterprise-wide mandate to shape corporate strategy, inform strategic choices and identify and execute external opportunities. It is based in Bagsværd, Denmark, with some travel expected.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and regular review of Novo Nordisk's corporate strategy with the CEO and Executive Management.
• Shape strategic choices on where to compete, how to win and which capabilities to build.
• Lead the full business development value chain: opportunity identification, due diligence, valuation, transaction execution, contracting, post-deal integration and alliance management.
• Connect internal capabilities and portfolio priorities with external opportunities such as strategic partnerships, collaborations and acquisitions.
• Ensure rigorous strategic and financial assessment, effective governance and clear accountability for value creation.
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and represent the company in strategic partnerships and transactions.
• Lead and develop a global organisation of about 60 employees across Corporate Strategy and Business Development.

Required profile

• Substantial senior leadership experience in corporate strategy, business development or related fields, in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, investment banking, management consulting or a comparable global environment.
• Proven track record of shaping enterprise strategy and leading complex strategic partnerships, transactions or acquisitions.
• Broad scientific and commercial understanding, with strong financial acumen and the ability to assess strategic opportunities and risks.
• Ability to advise and challenge the CEO and Executive Management and to align senior leaders across a complex global organisation.
• Demonstrated people leadership, with the ability to build diverse, inclusive and high-performing teams.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills, with the integrity to represent the company in major partnerships and transactions.
