Senior Operations Research Engineer, Ocean Network Optimization

About the role

Maersk is seeking a Senior Operations Research Engineer to lead the design and implementation of advanced optimisation models for its global ocean network. You will work on high‑impact problems that shape shipping container flows, vessel routing and resilient network design.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deploy optimisation models and heuristics from concept to production.
• Frame complex planning problems as clear mathematical formulations with explicit assumptions.
• Build reusable modelling components that integrate with production data systems.
• Improve existing optimisation logic for performance and scalability.
• Run structured experiments, validate models with data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
• Coach junior analysts and raise modelling standards.

Required profile

• PhD or master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science or a related quantitative field.
• Documented experience designing and deploying optimisation models in operational environments.
• Strong ability to communicate results and guide stakeholders through adoption.
• Disciplined approach to documentation, testing and reproducibility.

Required skills

• Expert‑level Python.
• C++ for performance‑critical components.
• Advanced SQL.
• Git and modern software‑engineering workflows.
• Operations Research techniques: Mixed‑Integer Programming, graph theory, decomposition methods, large‑scale optimisation.
• Experience with GPU acceleration or parallel computation (plus).
• Familiarity with AI/ML, deep learning architectures and statistical inference (plus).
