PhD Fellowship in Cardiac (Patho-)Physiology

About the role

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen offers a three‑year PhD fellowship focused on cardiac (patho‑)physiology. The fellow will investigate mechanisms of cardiac disease using a range of translational models and techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct independent research projects on cardiac pathophysiology.
• Lead translational studies involving long‑term porcine and rodent disease models, ex vivo human tissue analysis, electrophysiology, biochemistry, histology, and cardiac MRI.
• Complete PhD coursework amounting to approximately 30 ECTS points.
• Participate in an active research environment, including a research stay at another institution.
• Teach undergraduate students and disseminate research findings.
• Write and defend a PhD thesis based on the project outcomes.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, molecular or cellular biology, or a closely related field.
• Strong motivation for translational cardiac research and ability to work independently.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Required skills

• Experience with porcine and rodent disease models.
• Ex vivo human tissue analysis.
• Electrophysiology techniques.
• Biochemistry laboratory methods.
• Histology and tissue staining.
• Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI).
