Associate Professor – Equine Sports Medicine

About the role

The University of Copenhagen seeks an Associate Professor to lead research and teaching in Equine Sports Medicine. The position is based in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and starts on 1 March 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑impact research and publish internationally in equine sports medicine.
• Develop and deliver research‑based teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary students.
• Integrate muscular research into the curriculum and supervise students and researchers.
• Secure external funding and provide research leadership.
• Engage with the public and horse‑owner community on relevant topics.
• Contribute to departmental and university committees and course leadership.

Required profile

• Demonstrated record of original scientific production at an international level in equine sports medicine.
• Practical experience in equine general medicine within hospital and research settings.
• Experience developing clinical, research‑based teaching for veterinary students.

Required skills

• DVM with a Danish practice licence (or willingness to obtain within 6 months).
• PhD or equivalent qualification.
• Diplomat degree in ECEIM, ACVIM or ECVSMR (advantageous).
• Extensive research experience and publications in equine internal and sports medicine.
• Research management, external funding acquisition, and group leadership.
• Pre‑ and postgraduate clinical teaching experience and pedagogical training.
• Ability to provide high‑quality patient care in an equine hospital and field practice.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; willingness to acquire Danish language proficiency within 1–2 years.
