Master Thesis: Modelling & Optimization of High‑Pressure Polymer

About the role

This master‑thesis project is hosted by Coloplast’s R&D Center of Excellence in Humlebæk. The student will join the Simulation Team to develop virtual prototypes and finite‑element models for high‑pressure polymer components, investigating long‑term behaviour such as creep and stress relaxation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop finite‑element models that capture creep, stress relaxation, and deformation in polymer contact zones using viscoelastic or viscoplastic material models.
• Perform material characterization and contact experiments to provide data for model calibration and validation.
• Run detailed simulations to quantify changes in local stresses, strains, contact areas, and forces over time.
• Design alternative contact geometries and evaluate them through simulation‑driven optimisation to limit creep and permanent deformation.
• Deliver practical design guidelines for stable polymer contact interfaces.

Required profile

• Final‑stage master’s student in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Hands‑on experience with Finite Element Methods (e.g., relevant university courses).
• Knowledge of Strength of Materials (or equivalent coursework).
• Programming experience in Matlab, Fortran or Python.
