Assistant/Associate Professor in New Testament Studies

About the role

The Faculty of Theology at the University of Copenhagen seeks to appoint a new faculty member in New Testament Studies. The position can be filled as a Tenure‑Track Assistant Professor or as an Open‑Rank Associate Professor, starting as soon as possible and ideally by 1 February 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an active, internationally oriented research agenda in New Testament or early Christian studies.
• Deliver research‑based teaching at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels, covering a wide range of courses in the curriculum.
• Supervise examinations, theses and doctoral projects.
• Contribute to the Section, Department and Faculty life through administrative duties and committee work.
• Participate in securing and managing research funding, including grant applications.

Required profile

• PhD in New Testament Studies, early Christian studies or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated high‑level language competence and methodological sophistication.
• Evidence of research leadership or potential, such as experience with grant applications.
• Willingness to engage collegially and contribute to the Danish research and pedagogical environment.

Required skills

• Strong academic writing and publishing record.
• Ability to teach and supervise students across all degree levels.
• Experience in collaborative research projects.
