Postdoctoral position in digital media and communication

About the role

The Department of Communication at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a three‑year postdoctoral position starting 1 January 2027. The role is embedded in the ERC Advanced Grant project GREENWATCH – Green Surveillance: Imagining a Sustainable Internet of Things, which investigates the ethical, political and societal implications of using IoT as a global environmental monitoring system.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct conceptual and normative analyses of IoT imaginaries in China, Europe and the United States.
• Develop interdisciplinary research designs and contribute to comparative empirical studies across the three regions.
• Produce scholarly publications and present findings at international conferences.
• Collaborate with project partners, manage research data, and support project administration.

Required profile

• PhD in Communication, Media Studies, Digital Humanities or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in ethical and political aspects of digital media.
• Experience with cross‑cultural or non‑Western communication theory is highly desirable.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
