About the role
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Sector‑specific Gender Consultant to develop gender mainstreaming guidelines for the Business and Industry transformation area. This three‑month remote assignment will support the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) in integrating gender considerations into project planning and implementation.
Key responsibilities
- Review existing gender mainstreaming policies, frameworks and high‑quality guidelines relevant to Business and Industry.
- Conduct a gender analysis of sub‑sectors such as manufacturing, circular economy, clean industrial processes and supply‑chain decarbonisation, applying an intersectional lens.
- Facilitate consultations with CTCN technical teams, implementing partners, National Designated Entities, women’s organisations and gender experts.
- Draft sector‑specific gender mainstreaming guidelines, including checklists, sex‑disaggregated indicators and gender‑responsive procurement criteria.
- Coordinate validation of the guidelines with CTCN Secretariat, partners and an external gender expert.
- Produce a concise capacity‑building one‑pager for partners and NDE focal points.
- Present the final guidelines and provide implementation notes for embedding them into CTCN workflows.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Women’s Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Environmental Studies or a related field.
- Proven experience conducting gender analyses and developing gender mainstreaming tools in the context of business or industry transformation.
- Familiarity with UN gender policies, the CTCN Gender Assessment and Action Plan, and intersectional analysis.
