PhD Fellowship in Cardiac Physiology

About the role

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen offers two or more PhD fellowships focused on cardiac (patho‑)physiology. The position starts on 1 November 2026 (or later) and lasts three years, providing an opportunity to investigate mechanisms of cardiac disease using translational models.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct independent research projects under supervision.
• Lead translational cardiac research projects matched to your expertise.
• Complete PhD coursework equivalent to ~30 ECTS points.
• Participate in a research stay at another institution.
• Teach undergraduate students and disseminate research findings.
• Write and defend a PhD thesis based on your project.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, molecular or cellular biology, or a related field.
• Strong motivation for translational cardiac research.

Required skills

• Experience with porcine animal models.
• Experience with rodent animal models.
• Ex vivo human tissue analysis.
• Electrophysiology techniques.
• Biochemistry methods.
• Histology techniques.
• Cardiac MRI (cMRI) analysis.
