Senior Finance Accountant

About the role

BASF is looking for a Senior Finance Accountant to join its finance organisation at the Danish headquarters in Copenhagen. The role bridges business units, the Shared Service Center in Berlin, local functions, and external authorities, ensuring a stable and compliant finance operation.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and timely payment of corporate tax, duties and VAT, and maintain compliance with local regulations.
• Prepare and submit statistical reports to authorities.
• Monitor fixed assets and perform inventory control.
• Approve financial invoices and purchase orders.
• Manage credit processes, including credit assessments, order releases and Fit‑Gap analyses.
• Collaborate with HR on payroll and tax matters, including tax for delegates.
• Co‑responsible for mandatory Danish reporting and liaison with auditors.
• Assist in balance‑sheet and profit‑and‑loss reconciliation together with the Finance Manager.
• Serve as the primary local contact for finance and accounting queries, coordinating with SSC Berlin.
• Participate in ad‑hoc finance and ERP projects, driving process optimisation and control improvements.

Required profile

• University degree in finance/accounting or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, controlling or audit.
• Hands‑on experience with VAT filings, tax reporting, monthly/quarterly closes and statutory year‑end accounts.
• Strong expertise in SAP FI/CO, with the ability to troubleshoot system issues; experience in an international organisation with a Shared Service Center is a plus.
• Structured, analytical, detail‑oriented with high integrity and a focus on quality.
• Excellent collaboration, relationship and communication skills, service‑minded and solution‑oriented.
• Ability to work independently, take responsibility, prioritize effectively and thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple parallel tasks.
