Senior Staff Software Engineer – Delta

About the role

Databricks is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Delta DML team in Aarhus. You will design, develop, and maintain the backend systems that power Databricks workspaces, ensuring high query‑per‑second rates, low latency, and reliability at massive scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement robust backend services for serving workspace assets with a focus on performance and scalability.
• Debug low‑level system issues, measure performance, and optimise large production clusters.
• Introduce automation tools and improve operability of services.
• Lead complex technical projects across multiple teams, providing architectural guidance and owning project delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers, lead sprint planning, and promote best coding practices.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience building and supporting large‑scale distributed systems.
• Proven ability to work toward a multi‑year vision with incremental deliverables.
• Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and their real‑world applications.
• Track record of driving initiatives that deliver measurable customer value.
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Experience with Delta Lake or similar open‑source storage layers.
• Expertise in backend development for high‑throughput, low‑latency services.
• Proficiency in performance measurement, system debugging, and optimisation.
• Knowledge of large‑scale distributed system architectures.
