PhD Position in Organic Chemistry – CO₂ Capture Research

About the role
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a PhD position focused on organic chemistry and CO₂ capture in aqueous systems. The research is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation CO₂ Research Center and will be supervised by Associate Professor Jiwoong Lee.
Key responsibilities
- Design, synthesize and evaluate scalable organic materials for CO₂ capture in water.
- Investigate waste‑plastic degradation and bio‑based feedstocks to create efficient absorbents and adsorbents.
- Characterize materials using GPC, NMR, solid‑state NMR, TGA, DSC and gas‑sorption techniques.
- Present results at group meetings, seminars, and national/international conferences.
- Participate in teaching duties and outreach activities within the department.
Required profile
- MSc degree in Chemistry with a focus on organic chemistry or organic synthesis.
- 2–3 years of hands‑on laboratory experience in organic synthesis.
- Strong written and spoken English skills.
- Ability to work independently, be self‑motivated and strive for scientific excellence.
