PhD Fellowship in Protein Dynamics

About the role

The Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, together with the Department of Pharmacy, offers a three‑year PhD fellowship focused on protein dynamics and structure‑function relationships of a calcium‑sensing protein. The project combines hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX‑MS) with complementary biophysical techniques to elucidate ligand interactions and support drug discovery.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute independent research using HDX‑MS, SAXS, DSF and radioligand binding assays.
• Analyse data, interpret protein conformational changes, and integrate findings across collaborating labs.
• Present results at group meetings, conferences and in peer‑reviewed publications.
• Participate in teaching activities and contribute to the PhD programme coursework.

Required profile

• Experimental scientist with strong interest in protein chemistry, structural biology and mass spectrometry.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills for cross‑disciplinary work.
• Motivation to work in an international academic environment.

Required skills

• Experience with HDX‑MS and data analysis.
• Knowledge of protein chemistry, biochemistry and pharmacology.
• Familiarity with SAXS, DSF and radioligand binding techniques.
