Associate Professor – Bioorganic & Systems Chemistry

About the role

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a three‑year associate professor position in bioorganic and systems chemistry. The role combines independent research on chemically regulated molecular assemblies with research‑based teaching and community outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead research programmes on metabolism‑like reaction cycles, thiol‑based cascades and non‑equilibrium molecular self‑assembly.
• Secure external funding, prepare grant proposals and manage research budgets.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise PhD students and post‑doctoral fellows.
• Participate in departmental assessment tasks, examinations and curriculum development.
• Disseminate research findings to both scientific and broader societal audiences.

Required profile

• PhD in chemistry or a closely related field with a strong publication record at the international level.
• Demonstrated expertise at the interface of bioorganic synthesis and systems chemistry.
• University‑level teaching experience and documented teaching competencies.
• Ability to bridge traditional bioorganic chemistry with life‑like chemical systems.
• Experience in supervising research staff and managing collaborative projects.
