Underground Engineer for tunnels and underground structures

About the role

Design and deliver complex underground structures such as tunnels, shafts, cut‑and‑cover works, retaining walls and station boxes for major projects in Denmark and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Structural design of underground structures, including tunnel linings, shafts, cut‑and‑cover structures, retaining walls and station structures.
• Analysis and modelling using finite element software.
• Assessment of soil‑structure interaction, settlements and impacts on neighbouring buildings and infrastructure.
• Preparation of design reports, technical specifications, drawing input and tender documentation.
• Close coordination with contractors, BIM teams and clients.
• Depending on experience, take on discipline‑lead responsibilities, design coordination or development of digital design tools.

Required profile

• MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–15 years of design experience, preferably on underground or heavy civil structures.
• Broad expertise across multiple underground structure types and willingness to learn new ones.
• Working knowledge of Eurocodes and experience with finite element analysis.
• Professional fluency in English; Danish or another Scandinavian language is an advantage.
• Interest in digital tools, scripting or automation is a plus.
