About the role

The Center for Volatile Interactions (VOLT) at the University of Copenhagen seeks a motivated postdoctoral researcher to advance the understanding of biogenic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) across ecosystems. The role combines independent research, collaborative projects, and teaching responsibilities in a dynamic, international environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments on microbial VOC consumption and transformation using stable isotopes.
  • Apply cultivation‑dependent and cultivation‑independent methods, including microbial isolation, functional gene analysis, metagenomics, and bioinformatics.
  • Develop and implement a stable isotope probing (SIP) protocol for the centre.
  • Integrate chemical and environmental datasets to elucidate VOC cycling.
  • Publish findings, contribute to grant proposals, and present at conferences.
  • Participate in teaching, student supervision, and departmental training activities.

Required profile

  • PhD in environmental microbiology, microbial ecology, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in laboratory, field, or experimental research on VOCs or related topics.
  • Strong track record of scientific publications and collaborative work.
