Backend Software Engineer

About the role

As a backend‑focused software engineer at Databricks, you will collaborate with a team to design, build, and operate large‑scale infrastructure that powers the Databricks platform across multiple cloud providers and regions.

Key responsibilities

• Build foundational infrastructure platforms that enable seamless operation across geographic regions and cloud providers, supporting Databricks’ rapid growth.
• Develop cloud‑agnostic abstractions to simplify service management and improve operational efficiency for engineering teams.
• Create tools and processes that enhance developer productivity, including improvements to the Rust development experience, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation frameworks.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional software development experience, or a PhD in a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Scala, or Go.
• Hands‑on experience designing, developing, and operating backend systems at scale.
• Ability to contribute throughout the full software lifecycle, from design to production, with guidance from senior engineers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear technical documentation and collaboration.
