Professor of Socioeconomics of Biodiversity Conservation

About the role

The Department of Food and Resource Economics at the University of Copenhagen seeks a professor to lead research and teaching on the socioeconomics of biodiversity conservation and wildlife management. The role bridges ecological, economic, and governance perspectives to advance sustainable use of biodiversity.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct interdisciplinary research on biodiversity conservation, wildlife management, and related economic policies.
• Develop and apply methods that inform conservation financing and policy instruments.
• Secure external research funding and manage large research projects.
• Supervise research fellows, PhD candidates, and junior staff.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, design curricula, and assess student performance.
• Engage with private and public sector partners to translate research into practice.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant field (e.g., environmental economics, conservation science).
• Strong theoretical and empirical foundation across natural and social sciences.
• International publication record at the level of a professor.
• Proven ability to obtain research funding and manage complex projects.
• Documented university‑level teaching experience and pedagogical training.
• Experience with economic assessment of wildlife goods, illegal trade, and management strategies.
