PhD Fellowship in Circulating Factors and Unwanted Weight Loss

About the role

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen offers a three‑year PhD fellowship starting 1 January 2027. The project investigates plasma proteome regulators of cancer cachexia and age‑related sarcopenia, with a focus on sex differences and translational validation in mouse models.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute an independent research project under supervision.
• Complete PhD coursework equivalent to ~30 ECTS points.
• Participate in an active research environment, including a stay at another research team.
• Engage in teaching and dissemination activities related to the project.
• Write and defend a PhD thesis based on the research findings.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (2‑year) in a relevant field such as biochemistry or biology, equivalent to a Danish master’s degree.
• Strong academic record (GPA) and a certificate in animal handling (e.g., FELASA A/B/C).
• Deep understanding of molecular metabolism and experience with tumor mouse models.
• Extensive wet‑lab experience (Western blot, qPCR, ELISA) and interest in bioinformatics (R) and omics analyses.
• Proficiency in data visualization tools (GraphPad Prism, Illustrator) and excellent written and spoken English.
