Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Reel is building the software that powers the transition to renewable electricity. As a Senior Software Engineer you will work closely with the CTO and product team to deliver backend systems that lower electricity costs and create real climate impact.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain core backend services, including the electricity billing engine and market‑entry infrastructure.
• Develop the data backbone: pipelines and services that ingest, process and serve large volumes of real‑time energy data at scale.
• Support rapid growth by engineering scalable infrastructure for expanding volume and geography.
• Ship user‑facing analytics and platform tools that help customers monitor consumption, production and emissions.
• Lead code reviews, influence technical decisions and help shape the team’s engineering direction.

Required profile

• Proven experience shipping production backend software and taking ownership of features.
• Comfort with building reliable, high‑availability systems and a bias for simple, pragmatic solutions.
• Ability to work independently, make confident decisions and collaborate when needed.
• Curiosity about renewable energy and willingness to learn the domain.

Required skills

• Elixir and Phoenix framework (LiveView optional).
• TypeScript for front‑end development.
• Python for machine‑learning and trading components.
• Google Cloud Platform (GCP) hosting.
• PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB and BigQuery for data storage and analytics.
