Assistant Professor – Structural Virology

About the role

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen seeks a highly motivated Assistant Professor to start on 1 September 2026. This fixed‑term (2‑3 years) position focuses on structural virology, especially viral envelope proteins, virus entry mechanisms and vaccine‑relevant antigen design. The successful candidate will build an independent research profile while contributing to interdisciplinary teaching and collaborative projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead research projects in structural virology.
• Define the architecture and function of viral glycoprotein complexes.
• Publish findings in leading peer‑reviewed journals.
• Attract external research funding.
• Supervise PhD students, post‑docs and junior researchers.
• Participate in teaching and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Required profile

• PhD in health sciences, preferably virology.
• Extensive experience in molecular virology and cell‑culture infection studies.
• Strong background in structural biology.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
