Assistant Professor – Membrane Protein Structural Biology

About the role

The Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology at the University of Copenhagen seeks a highly motivated scientist to lead a 1.5‑year project on structural characterization of human membrane proteins for drug discovery. The successful candidate will join the Novo Nordisk Foundation‑funded project focused on serial synchrotron crystallography of amino acid transporters.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments to produce, purify, and crystallize challenging membrane proteins.
• Perform X‑ray crystallography and cryo‑EM studies, including serial synchrotron data collection.
• Analyze structural data, manage datasets, and prepare scientific reports and publications.
• Coordinate with internal and external collaborators, ensuring project milestones are met.
• Contribute to grant writing and funding applications.

Required profile

• PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, or a closely related field.
• Strong publication record with at least one first‑author paper in structural biology.
• Experience in membrane protein production, purification, and structural determination.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an international research team.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
